The State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ali Omar, said that Somalia faces very difficult security, political and economic challenges, which require strong regional cooperation and alliances, especially with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Egypt.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Al-Majalla, the Minister indicated that the Somali government\u2019s top priority is to protect the country\u2019s territorial integrity, combat terrorist groups such as Al-Shabaab and ISIS, and secure the strategic waterways of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.<\/p>\n

Ali Omar said that security threats within the country and external interference necessitate \u201cunified regional cooperation\u201d to prevent terrorism and instability in the region.<\/p>\n

The Minister strongly condemned Israel\u2019s move to recognize what it called \u201cthe independence of Somaliland,\u201d describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to the unity and sovereignty of Somalia.<\/p>\n

He said that this could have a negative impact on the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and would not serve the common interests of the Arab world.<\/p>\n

The minister also stressed that the federal system of Somalia does not give regional administrations any rights regarding foreign representation, which, according to him, is clearly stated in the country’s constitution.<\/p>\n

He stressed that international relations are a special responsibility of the Federal Government of Somalia.<\/p>\n

Regarding relations with the United States, Ali Omar said that the political changes in Washington, especially under President Donald Trump, are not specifically targeting Somalia, but are part of a general policy in which the United States is reducing the role of international aid.<\/p>\n

Finally, the minister said that despite security challenges, the Somali government has made significant progress, with almost 80% of the country freed from armed groups, and operations to eradicate terrorism are continuing, in parallel with the reconstruction of the state.<\/p>\n
