Somalia is set to take over the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council in early January 2026.<\/p>\n

The move is seen as a major diplomatic victory and a sign that Somalia is returning to the global decision-making arena and is strengthening its voice.<\/p>\n

During its presidency, Somalia will be responsible for leading the work of the Security Council, including setting the agenda for meetings, chairing key meetings, and guiding discussions on international security.<\/p>\n

Issues to be discussed include peacekeeping operations, counterterrorism, stability in conflict-affected regions, and humanitarian crises resulting from wars and droughts.<\/p>\n

Diplomats and analysts say the opportunity will allow Somalia to clearly present African security priorities, particularly the security challenges in the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n

Somalia is expected to call for peaceful solutions, strong international cooperation, and continued support to help countries recover from conflict and destruction.<\/p>\n

The presidency of the Security Council is also seen as a major boost to Somalia’s diplomatic profile.
