The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia held its weekly meeting today, which focused on important issues for the country\u2019s destiny, especially the local council elections to be held this month in the capital, Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Government of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, saw the Cabinet hear a report from the Ministry of Interior, Federalism and Reconciliation on preparations for the local council elections.<\/p>\n

The report detailed the security arrangements at polling stations, the electoral process, and the number of citizens who received their ballots and are ready to cast their votes.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre commended the ministers for their efforts in engaging with the public, noting that citizen-government engagement is a key pillar of democracy and the success of the elections. He also commended their participation in the election awareness campaign.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Council of Ministers approved amendments to the Central Bank of Somalia Law, which will strengthen the financial system and increase transparency and accountability. economic institutions, The Council also passed the National Defense Bill, to enhance the powers, responsibilities and cooperation of the country’s security institutions.<\/p>\n

The Council of Ministers also held a lengthy debate and finally approved the Children’s Rights Bill and the Family Affairs Bill, which aim to protect children’s rights, develop the Somali family and build a comprehensive legal system.<\/p>\n

These two laws have gone through all the legislative procedures, and scholars have been consulted, with officials from the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Constitution providing the Council with details on the stages they have gone through. Although they have been approved, the relevant ministries have been instructed to amend a few wordings in the laws.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Cabinet approved the policy and regulation of the National Education Development Fund (NEDF), which aims to improve the quality of education in the country and ensure sustainable funding to support Somali students.<\/p>\n
