Somalia has joined the International Maritime Organization (IMSO) to monitor maritime activities.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Government of Somalia, Abdulkhadir Mohamed Nur, held a fruitful meeting in London with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez.<\/p>\n

The meeting was part of Somalia\u2019s growing efforts to strengthen maritime security, modernize maritime institutions, and enhance its international role in the fields of maritime safety and security, according to a statement from the Ministry.<\/p>\n

newsinsideThe Ministry revealed that during the meeting, Minister Abdulkhadir officially handed over to the Secretary-General the documents confirming Somalia\u2019s accession to the Convention (IMSO), which marks a historic step that enhances the country\u2019s ability to monitor, manage, and protect maritime activities.<\/p>\n

Joining this agreement also strengthens Somalia’s cooperation with the IMO in developing technical, legal, and security capabilities.<\/p>\n

The two sides discussed plans for Somalia to develop maritime-related legislative systems, training of maritime institutions, and how to build a modern system to prevent maritime threats and develop the country\u2019s blue economy.<\/p>\n

The Minister said that the Somali government has made a strong commitment to rebuilding and modernizing maritime institutions, underlining that cooperation with IMO will greatly contribute to ensuring sustainable maritime security.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an honor for me to meet with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez,\u201d said Minister Abdulkhadir.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe transfer of the official documents confirming Somalia\u2019s accession to IMSO is a new chapter for Somalia, which strengthens maritime security, trade, and international relations of the country,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
