The Somali Military Court is planning to request the Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament to lift the immunity of members of Parliament accused of involvement in killings by clan militias in parts of the Lower Shabelle region.<\/p>\n

Deputy Attorney General of the Military Court, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Haji Abdullahi Kamey, who spoke to the media in Yaqbariweyne, one of the areas under Wanlaweyn district, said that there are officials with immunity who are instigating the violence being carried out by the militias on the road between Wanlaweyn and Yaqbariweyne.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are officials with immunity from both sides that fought in Wanlaweyn district. These officials provide the militias with weapons, ammunition, money and also defend them verbally and on social media, they are always supported and defended.\u201d said Deputy Attorney General of the Military Court, Ahmed Haji Abdullahi Kamey.<\/p>\n

The deputy prosecutor also said they have evidence that the officials, whose names were not disclosed, are under the control of the two militias that are causing trouble in parts of the areas under Wanlaweyn.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have now gathered or received a lot of evidence that proves that these officials with immunity are supporting or under the control of the militias that fought in Wanlaweyn district,\u201d said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Haji Abdullahi Kamey.<\/p>\n

Kamey indicated that they will share the evidence with the Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia and the Disciplinary Committee of the Parliament, to request a request for lifting immunity, before their trial.<\/p>\n

Finally, the statement from the Deputy Prosecutor of the Court comes, as the court on Saturday sentenced some of the clan militias who have been carrying out killings in the past two years between Wanlaweyn and Yaaqbariweyne districts in the Lower Shabelle region to death and prison sentences.<\/p>\n
