The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, chaired a meeting to discuss the completion and preparation for the country\u2019s local government elections, which are expected to be held soon.<\/p>\n

The meeting, held at the Somali Council of Ministers headquarters in Mogadishu, was attended by ministers from the government, especially the ministers of security, interior affairs and finance, all of whom are directly involved in the election process.<\/p>\n

The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) Chairman Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan first presented a detailed report to the meeting on the plans they have prepared for the country\u2019s local government elections.<\/p>\n

Chairman Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan told the meeting that their commission has prepared all the technical, security and administrative resources necessary for the holding of the elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have prepared voting equipment, trained election staff and the security system is all going well,\u201d said the chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, praised the committee and the ministries that participated in the conference for their efforts in the election, stressing that his government is committed to leading the country to a one-person, one-vote election starting in the Banadir region.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Banadir local council elections will be the first real step towards a one-person, one-vote system since the collapse of the central government in 1991,\u201d said Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre.<\/p>\n

However, this conference is coming, as the country\u2019s local government elections are set to take place between January and May of next year, 2026, and the plan is to start in the Banadir region first.<\/p>\n
