The Prime Minister of the Government of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, today officially opened the Somali Internet Governance Forum, which was held in Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of producing effective provisions from this conference that lead to progress and a system to improve the management and use of the Internet in the country, so that Somalia can keep pace with global technological changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Internet Governance Forum Conference is an important opportunity for us to establish provisions that we can represent our country at international technology conferences. Other countries do not use the Internet, it is governed by strict laws and regulations, and Somalia must take that path to prevent digital abuses,\u201d said Prime Minister Hamsa.<\/p>\n

Hamsa Abdi Barre noted that Somalia needs to establish modern laws that protect the ethics, security and rights of Internet users, underlining that issues related to ethics and the protection of digital data must be seriously addressed.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister also called on companies providing Internet services to serve the community fairly and equitably, and to avoid competition that is not beneficial to the overall development of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge all citizens and private companies to work together for the development of the country, while safeguarding the common interest and national unity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Prime Minister of the DanQaran Government pledged that the government will further strengthen efforts to establish modern laws and mechanisms to govern the Internet, to ensure digital security, user rights, and the promotion of the digital economy in Somalia.<\/p>\n
