The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Federal Government of Somalia has taken strong legal action, after submitting a case to the Office of the Attorney General against members of the Somali Olympic Committee (GOS).<\/p>\n

This action came after the ministry fulfilled its duty to protect the country\u2019s sports system and law, and confirmed information indicating acts of corruption, trafficking and abuse of power within the Somali Olympic Committee, according to a statement from the ministry.<\/p>\n

The names of the members accused include Ahmed Abdi Hassan (Wataac), the Chairman of the GOS Committee, Duran Ahmed Farah, the Deputy Chairman of the GOS, Mohamed Abdow Haaji, the Secretary General of the GOS, and Farah Ali Moalin, the Assistant Secretary of the GOS.<\/p>\n

The ministry said that these members will go through the country\u2019s legal system, and the results of the investigation and next steps will be communicated to the public in a transparent manner.<\/p>\n

The letter from the Ministry came after the Chairman of the Somali Olympic Committee (GOS), Ahmed Abdi Hassan (Wataac), who spoke to the media, revealed that the Minister, who is a member of the president’s family, is having serious problems with their Committee, which is independent, self-elected and does not receive a salary from the government.<\/p>\n

He said that the committee wanted the Minister to take over the facility where he works, and when they refused, he issued a letter terminating his employment, which is illegal and never valid.<\/p>\n

Wataac said that the ministry owned and operated the facility adjacent to the committee’s headquarters, which it previously said was unnecessary, and it is believed that it was given to businessmen with vested interests.<\/p>\n
