The Somali Cabinet held its weekly meeting today, chaired by the Acting Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Saleh Ahmed Jama.<\/p>\n

The meeting focused on several issues important to the development and governance of the country, in particular the preparations for the upcoming one-person-one-vote elections in the country, and the ratification of national laws and agreements.<\/p>\n

The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission briefed the Council on the progress of voter registration activities and the plan for the local elections to be held in the capital, Mogadishu, on November 30.<\/p>\n

The Council of Ministers also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation regarding the classification of districts in the Banadir Region, based on the electoral law that defines the procedure for classifying districts.<\/p>\n

These new classifications are divided into two categories: Class (A) Districts and Class (B) Districts.<\/p>\n

The Grade (A) Districts include 1. Hodan, 2. Yaaqshiid, 3. Deyniile, 4. Kaaraan, 5. Dharkeenley, 6. Wadajir, 7. Warta-Nabadda, 8. Heliwaa and 9. Howl-wadaag.<\/p>\n

The Grade (B) Districts also include 1. Waaberi, 2. Shibis, 3. Xamar-jajab, 4. Boondheere, 5. Xamar-weyne, 6. Cabdiasiis and 7. Shangaani.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Cabinet also approved four important laws and agreements related to the security, governance and economic development of the country, namely, the Regulations of the Higher Institute for Security and Strategic Studies, the Somali Police Law Bill, the Agreement on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Rivers and International Lakes, and the Regulations on the Establishment of National Fishing Companies.<\/p>\n
