The United States has said it is committed to fighting terrorism in Somalia, but is calling on other countries interested in Somalia\u2019s security and future to increase their financial support.<\/p>\n

The United States\u2019 Permanent Representative to the United Nations, John Kelley, told a meeting of the United Nations Security Council that Somalia remains in a state of war, noting that cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union is essential for peace and stability on the continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States remains committed to the fight against terrorism in Somalia, but now is the time for other countries interested in Somalia\u2019s security and future to increase their financial support,\u201d Kelley said.<\/p>\n

He added that strong cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union can help achieve lasting peace, security, and prosperity across Africa.<\/p>\n

The United States also welcomed the African Union\u2019s efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorism, pledging that his country would continue to support peace and security across Africa.<\/p>\n

The United States also urged an immediate end to the violence in Sudan, commending the efforts of UN Special Envoy Lamamra in coordinating the UN, AU and IGAD response.<\/p>\n

The United States said that UN, AU, and regional peacekeeping operations in some parts of Africa need to unify policies, guidelines, and procedures to increase the effectiveness of these efforts.<\/p>\n
