The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has once again spoken out about the threat posed by climate change to Somalia, while delivering a speech at the 2nd African Climate Summit in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

The President made it clear that Somalia needs $6.3 billion to fully respond to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh stated that Somalia is facing climate-related challenges such as droughts, floods and widespread erosion. The country needs $6.3 billion to finance climate adaptation plans and projects, including strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities and rebuilding water and production infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The President noted that although Somalia has not played a significant role in causing climate change, it is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n

The President called on the international community and financial institutions to respond to Somalia\u2019s call for increased climate finance.<\/p>\n

The Somali President’s statement highlights the urgent financial need the country has to save the lives of millions of people struggling with climate change. The $6.3 billion request aims to give Somalia the opportunity to prevent and overcome growing environmental threats.<\/p>\n
