The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, accompanied by the Commander of the Somali National Army, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, today held a special meeting in Mogadishu with the Head of the AUSSOM Mission in Somalia, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, and other officials.<\/p>\n

The meeting was a meeting in which both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Defense and the AUSSOM mission, such as implementing the security transition plan and accelerating the ongoing operations in the country against Al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n

The parties also discussed how to double the operations in most regions of the country against Al-Shabaab militants.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, thanked AUSSOM for its significant role in supporting security and efforts to stabilize the country.<\/p>\n

The Head of the AUSSOM Mission in Somalia, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, for his part, said that AUSSOM is committed to accelerating the fight against Al-Shabaab and eliminating it from Somalia as a whole.<\/p>\n

Finally, this meeting is coming, as last week, the Federal Government and AUSSOM forces jointly took control of the Bariire area in the Lower Shabelle region, after heavy fighting between the coalition forces and Al-Shabaab militants.<\/p>\n
