<\/p>\nThe candidates for the presidency of the Northeastern State of Somalia have jointly issued a press release condemning the manner in which the election for the new administration is being conducted. The candidates expressed strong concerns about alleged interference from the Federal Ministry of Interior, particularly Minister Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Xoosh), who is accused of directly supporting a particular group to take over the administration.<\/p>\n
They said that the parliamentary vetting and approval committee appointed by the Minister was illegitimate, serving vested interests and undermining confidence in the electoral process. The candidates also warned that an election without a consensus process could lead to social distancing, the destruction of hopes for the establishment of the administration, and preventing the people from receiving freely elected leadership.<\/p>\n
The press release stated several points, including that the candidates will not accept an electoral process that favors a particular candidate, and that the elections must be held in accordance with the constitution and the will of the people. It also called on traditional leaders and community leaders to play a key role in maintaining unity and peace in the region.<\/p>\n
The candidates also warned the Federal Government that it will bear responsibility for any consequences arising from interference and abuse of the electoral process, and finally called on the international community, the Somali people, and all political stakeholders to reject a process that is biased in their own interests, and to support transparent elections that can earn the trust of the public.<\/p>\n
