Somalia, speaking on behalf of the so-called A3+ countries (Algeria, Guyana, Sierra Leone, and Somalia), submitted a report to the UN Security Council, expressing strong concern about the situation in Yemen and the ongoing conflicts in the region.<\/p>\n

Somalia specifically warned against the new clashes between the Houthis and Israel, which it described as a threat to international peace and were directly related to the ongoing unresolved conflict in the Gaza Strip. A3+ strongly condemned the violation of international law, calling on the international community to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire to address the Palestinian plight and prevent the spread of conflict in the region.<\/p>\n

They supported the diplomatic efforts led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to secure a formal ceasefire in Gaza, and called on the Security Council to support all efforts to achieve stability and fruitful dialogue.<\/p>\n

A3+ also condemned the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea, which they said posed a threat to international trade. The Israeli airstrikes on the Hudaydah region on 6\u20137 July were also strongly criticized, as they posed a serious risk of civilian casualties and could escalate the conflict.<\/p>\n

The A3+ countries stressed that all parties to the conflict in Yemen must respect international humanitarian law, in particular the Fourth Geneva Convention, and refrain from militarizing populated areas.<\/p>\n

The report also expressed grave concern about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, with outbreaks of diseases such as malaria, dengue, and watery diarrhea putting pressure on the health system. Somalia supported OCHA\u2019s call for urgent access to Yemen and facilitating access to aid.<\/p>\n
