The African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) has reaffirmed its full support for the people and the Federal Government of Somalia, expressing its commitment to the fight against Al-Shabaab and efforts to achieve lasting peace and political stability.<\/p>\n

The Council particularly commended the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia to accelerate its national agenda, and called on the regional states, including Jubaland and Puntland, to engage in an inclusive political dialogue process.<\/p>\n

The Council also expressed deep concern about the security situation in the country, particularly the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, and urged the Somali security forces to intensify their fight against terrorist groups, with continued support from international partners.<\/p>\n

The African Union announced an additional $10 million to the Emergency Response Fund, bringing the total available to $20 million by 2025, to support the AUSSOM operation.<\/p>\n

The council also called on the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom and other partners to support a fundraising conference for AUSSOM, to secure sustainable funding for ongoing peacekeeping operations in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The African Union Commission is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the UN Security Council in the coming weeks on the new AUSSOM bases, logistics and aviation requirements to ensure continued support from the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).<\/p>\n

The African Union has reiterated that it will not withdraw from Somalia until a complete victory is achieved against Al-Shabaab, and peace and formal governance are secured.<\/p>\n
