The European Union, in partnership with the Somali National Army and the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has concluded a military exercise called Green Shield.<\/p>\n

The exercise, which took place at the General Dhagabadan training center on the outskirts of Mogadishu, was described as a symbol of cooperation between Somalis, the European Union, and Africans, and marked the first time that they had jointly designed, led, and participated in a live security exercise.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the exercise was to prepare for challenging security situations such as roadside bombs and remote attacks, demonstrating that the partnership between the international community and Somali security agencies has improved, while strengthening the skills and capabilities of the Somali military.<\/p>\n

The exercise was not just a training exercise, it was a clear message that success is achieved when we work together and share the process. As one participant said: \u201cWe did not train for Somalia, we trained with Somalia. That is what makes the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

The European Union said this partnership reflects the hope that Somali security institutions will become resilient, that peace will come from within the country, and that Somalia’s security will be ensured by professional Somali forces, in partnership with international partners loyal to Somalia.<\/p>\n
