The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has officially announced a National Dialogue Conference to be held in Mogadishu on June 15, 2025.<\/p>\n

A press release from the presidency said that the conference will bring together federal government leaders, state leaders, former politicians, political parties, and various sectors of civil society.<\/p>\n

The decision came after weeks of private consultations between the president and some former leaders, some regional leaders, political parties, and civil society organizations. The purpose of the conference, according to the presidency, is to agree on a unified approach to addressing the challenges facing the country, taking into account the common interest.<\/p>\n

The Somali president said that the conference will discuss issues such as security and the eradication of terrorism, the democratic process and the holding of free elections, the completion of the constitution, and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh called on politicians and community leaders to prepare for the conference and play their full role, noting that the conference is important for the establishment of the Somali state. The presidency has sent an official invitation to all relevant parties.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh also appointed a technical committee led by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Moalim Mahmoud, to work on the organization of the conference and preliminary meetings.<\/p>\n

However, yesterday, the Opposition Council proposed an urgent national meeting to bring together federal, state and opposition leaders to discuss how to save the country and unite power and organization to confront terrorist groups.<\/p>\n

The opposition called for a resolution to the dispute over constitutional amendments, non-binding elections, the country’s economic governance and natural resource agreements.<\/p>\n
