The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday issued a press release reaffirming its commitment to continuing relations and cooperation between Jubbaland and Somaliland, in consultation with the Federal Government of Somalia.<\/p>\n

The statement stressed that Kenya respects the political independence, national unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, based on international law and regional agreements to which Somalia is a party.<\/p>\n

The statement from the Kenyan government came as the new President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), traveled to Nairobi today, following an official invitation from the Kenyan government.<\/p>\n

The Somaliland Presidency said that President Cirro will meet with senior Kenyan government officials, led by Kenyan President William Ruto, to discuss several issues of particular importance to Somaliland. President Cirro will also inaugurate a new, modern building intended to house the Somaliland embassy in Kenya.<\/p>\n

Kenya has previously welcomed the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madoobe), which has angered the Federal Government of Somalia, as the government considers Ahmed Madoobe a criminal with a court warrant.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government of Somalia has remained silent on President Cirro’s trip to Kenya, although diplomatic sources have confirmed to HOL that the Somali government is deeply upset by the visit of the Somaliland President to Nairobi.<\/p>\n
