The head of the Kenya Confederation of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli, who has been in Kenyan politics for over 20 years, said it is time for Somalis to become presidents of the country.<\/p>\n

Politician Atwoli seemed to be showing that change is needed to leave where we are, and he gave an example of a visit to Eastleigh Market in Nairobi and what he saw there.<\/p>\n

“I want to thank the Somali community in Eastleigh, I visited Eastleigh for the first time yesterday. When you are in Eastleigh, especially the market, until you walk a little further, you feel like you are in Cairo, Egypt,” said Atwoli, adding that change is needed.<\/p>\n

“Somalis, let them make change in Nairobi if you can’t afford it, and don’t cry because you want money to be brought to the office and thrown at you,” said politician Atwoli.<\/p>\n

He called on Somalis to develop the capital city of Nairobi, and in the future they will have a president.<\/p>\n

Somalis in Kenya have held important positions in the country, such as foreign minister, defense minister, deputy speaker of parliament, army chief, police and intelligence chief, ambassadors, regional governors, and company heads. Somalis have also held other important positions such as the criminal investigation department.<\/p>\n
