There are additional reports of mortar shells hitting the heavily guarded Xalane compound, located within the Aden Adde International Airport compound in Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

The shells, which were heard in some districts of the Banadir region, reportedly landed directly inside the Xalane compound.<\/p>\n

Unconfirmed reports also indicate that two mortar shells landed inside the Xalane compound, specifically near the Movcon area, where UN personnel board their aircraft.<\/p>\n

However, it is not yet known whether the shells caused any casualties, and there has been no official statement from the Somali government’s security services regarding the shelling of the Xalane compound.<\/p>\n

The Xalane compound, which was hit by the mortar shells, is home to UN officials, African Union officials and many foreign embassies, and has been the site of several mortar attacks claimed by Al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n

This mortar attack comes after Al-Shabaab carried out a bomb attack in Mogadishu yesterday targeting a convoy carrying President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.<\/p>\n

Al-Shabaab has finally claimed responsibility for the mortar attack on the Halane police station in Mogadishu, and has threatened to increase such attacks.<\/p>\n
