Puntland’s senior security officials said they are fully committed to fighting ISIS, but urged their international partners to provide necessary military support.<\/p>\n

“We are giving everything we have to this fight,” said Jen. Abdirahman Mohamed Jama, commander of the Puntland Navy (PMPF).<\/p>\n

“But to continue our operations and ensure success, we need technical assistance with drone interceptors, mine detectors and night vision equipment.”<\/p>\n

The official stressed that they do not want direct foreign military intervention. But they are asking for support in terms of supplies and information sharing to fight the Daesh group that has taken advantage of the difficult terrain in the Bari region to stay in Puntland.<\/p>\n

However, Puntland has been at war for a month and a half with the Daesh group, which has been gathering in the mountains of Calmikaad in the Bari region for the last ten years.<\/p>\n

It is one of the most difficult battles that Puntland is fighting against ISIS.<\/p>\n

Puntland has now cleared Daesh of hundreds of kilometers of territory that they previously controlled, which has enabled them to influence people to extort money from them.<\/p>\n
