The Governor of Banadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, today participated in a consultation meeting on the amendment of the country’s Constitution, which focused on Chapters 5 to 9 of the Transitional Constitution of Somalia.<\/p>\n

Chairman Amir said that the Constitution of the Banadir Regional Government has a political will that is in line with the needs of the people living in Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

“The desire and political will of the Banadir community in relation to status and representation is for Mogadishu to become a full regional government and also to have at least 21 senatorial seats in the Upper House,” said the Mayor of Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the people of Banadir want Mogadishu to be a full administration and part of the Regional Government under the Federal Government, at least 21 Senators in the Upper House of the Somali Parliament.<\/p>\n

“I hope you are all in Hamar to support it, because it is a city that belongs to both of them. Every Somali citizen’s capital is Mogadishu. I am asking the President of Somalia and his Prime Minister to appoint a representative of Mogadishu,” said the Governor of Banadir and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amir.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Banadir region emphasized the importance of completing the constitution for the nation, and urged the constitutional institutions to consider the wishes of the people of Banadir.<\/p>\n

The meeting was also presented with a report on the draft of the amendment to the constitution, which will be submitted to the Federal Parliament of Somalia for approval.<\/p>\n
