The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today attended the summit of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which discussed finding a solution to the conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh said that this conference is of great importance for the stability of the region, and he presented how Somalia, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, is committed to strengthening the role of Africa in finding solutions to the problems in Africa.<\/p>\n

He also mentioned to the President of Somalia that the crisis in the Congo can be ended through consensus and peace, and he called on both sides to have an opportunity for ongoing discussions.<\/p>\n

“The conflict in eastern DRC is a humanitarian disaster, and it requires urgent action to ensure lasting peace. The joint diplomacy of the two organizations is an important key to reduce tensions, and a solution should be sought through dialogue and consensus, instead of making war a solution,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.<\/p>\n

The President of the Federal Government confirmed that Somalia stands by the peace efforts led by the EAC and SADC, and is ready to contribute to the solution of the conflict in the DRC, benefiting from its experience in reconciliation and peace building.<\/p>\n

Finally, the meeting is coming, as last week the armed group M23 took over the strategic city of Goma, where a United Nations official said on Wednesday that 3,000 people were killed in the latest conflict in Goma.<\/p>\n
