The new government of Somaliland has said that it is reviewing the memorandum of understanding signed by the previous government with Ethiopia, and it will continue if it balances the interests of both parties.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, Abdirahman Dahir Adan, who met with the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives, and who previously opposed the agreement, explained the reason for his opposition.<\/p>\n

“I was against the MOU, there were many ambiguities in it; what Ethiopia is saying and what the president is saying are different. Ethiopia said, after the sea is given to us, we will think about recognition,” said the minister.<\/p>\n

He said that, as a ministry, they will review the agreement and see if it is in the interest of Somaliland, noting that they will work to make Somaliland an independent country. and benefiting from it with the world.<\/p>\n

“If it is useful for us and it includes our recognition, we prefer to allow it. We will look into it, we are ready. We have told Ethiopia as much; it will be easier for us if the neighboring countries recognize us,” said the minister.<\/p>\n

He said that his government is planning to strengthen relations with the United Arab Emirates, which he pointed out is an important country for Somaliland, the Ethiopian government, and Taiwan.<\/p>\n

A year later, the mutual understanding between the two sides has not yet been converted into a formal agreement. Also, the agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia in Ankara has once again worsened the hope of its implementation.<\/p>\n
