Reports from Mozambique state that Somalis living in the towns and villages of the country have been robbed and looted at their places of business.<\/p>\n

The looting and vandalism of Somali businesses in the country came after violent demonstrations by opposition supporters against the results of the elections that took place in the country on October 9 intensified.<\/p>\n

Among the cities that have become major centers of business in Somalia are the capital city of Maputo and the other city of Nampula, as confirmed by a member of the Somali community in the country.<\/p>\n

Mohamud Abdulqadir Jama, one of the businessmen living in Nampula city, said that his shop was broken into and the contents were taken.<\/p>\n

“They took a lot of goods from us, which reached up to 150,000, and they took other goods from another store next to me, the goods that we have not counted are a lot of luggage, and a lot of Somalis were robbed in their shops. There are many different markets,” said Mohamud Abdulqadir Jama.<\/p>\n

The situation in Mozambique is getting worse and the foreigners living in the country, including Somalis, are facing the fear that more problems will be caused to them if the violence continues.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, more than 1,500 prisoners escaped from prisons in Mozambique, who took advantage of the political turmoil caused by the disputed election results, according to media reports from police officers in the country.<\/p>\n

The number of people who have died in the riots has reached 33 people, while 15 others are injured, after clashes between the army and the protesters, as told to the media by the police commander named Bernardino Rafael.<\/p>\n

These protests are the response of opposition supporters to the decision of the country’s highest court confirming that the Frelimo party, which has been in power since 1975, won the presidential election held in October of this year 2024.<\/p>\n
