The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (PSC) is scheduled to hold the 1253rd ministerial session today, which will discuss the situation in Somalia and security arrangements after the ATMIS operation.<\/p>\n

The session of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union is going to cancel the ATMIS mission, in order to move on to the construction of the new AUSSOM mission. There will also be a discussion about the forces participating in this operation and the required enablers.<\/p>\n

The main obstacle that stood in front of the main points to complete the AUSSOM construction agreement, was the conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia. However, the African Union sees a great opportunity in the Ankara agreement, which brought the two countries closer together.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of Political Affairs of the Peace and Security Department of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, is expected to present a report on the requests from the 1225th session of the Council.<\/p>\n

The Assembly may also hear a report from Mohamed El-Amine Souef, Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission in Somalia and Head of ATMIS, and Donald Kaberuka, High Representative of the Chairperson of the Peace Fund Committee.<\/p>\n

The expected outcome of the session is a press release. It is expected that the PSC will underline the importance of maintaining peace and the security achievements of AMISOM and ATMIS and reiterate the commitment of the African Union to support the fight against Al Shabaab.<\/p>\n

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (PSC) may express concern over the recent security incidents between the Federal Government and Jubbaland, and will urge them to resolve it peacefully. their differences to avoid the risk that the situation will lead to security delays. Also, they may welcome Ankara’s agreement with Ethiopia and Somalia.<\/p>\n

However, two weeks are left before the scheduled time to conclude the ATMIS mission and start the new AUSSOM mission.<\/p>\n
