The former president of Somalia, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, who held a joint press conference with the media today, strongly opposed today’s move by the parliamentarians of the two Houses to approve the constitution of the independent commission for the country’s elections.<\/p>\n

The former president of Somalia, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, firstly said that the work of the Somali parliament has been crippled, and that the laws that were passed today by the electoral commission are a wrong and incorrect process.<\/p>\n

“Parliament has been told that it is the first body to vote. If there is any doubt, are all the members who have voted or not?” Knowing that is very important. The laws that are currently being approved are wrong, the consequences should be avoided,” said former president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.<\/p>\n

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed also noted that the administration of Jubbaland, Puntland and the opposition politicians are opposed to the election of people and votes, and there is no safety in holding elections of people and votes.<\/p>\n

“Is it possible to achieve an election with a person and a vote in this city where we are today, the capital, where the government is working? Can it be done by a person and a vote? Can the people go out to vote freely and legally? That question is there,” said Sharif Sheikh.<\/p>\n

MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame criticized the members of both houses and the Speaker of the Parliament, describing the current Parliament as being worse than the Parliament during the military rule.<\/p>\n

“It is really sad that the two Houses of the Parliament have become a weaker place than the Parliament of the military rule. Today, 173 MPs came and raised their hands. No one rejected it, no one remained silent. The People’s Assembly has also become a place of applause. to succeed, and we know that the parliamentarians present are not more than 120 members, most of them ministers,” said MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.<\/p>\n

Abdirahman Abdishakur also mentioned that the regional governments of the country are independent for their own elections, and he underlined that the approval of the election committee is in conflict with the country’s federal system.<\/p>\n
