Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was welcomed in Berlin. After an invitation, he met with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz and discussed strengthening relations, revitalizing vocational education, enhancing security, and expanding cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Bild, a Berlin-based newspaper, interviewed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud about the Somali refugees living in Germany and his government’s plans for those people.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh said that any refugee who is not legally in Germany can be sent back to Somalia, as the country is now peaceful, according to him.<\/p>\n

More than 60,000 Somalis live in Germany, many of whom have sought asylum.<\/p>\n

This year alone, 5,800 have applied for asylum, according to Bild.<\/p>\n

“Somali refugees who do not have legal status or have not assimilated are being sent back. Somalia is now peaceful, except for small battles with terrorists.” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud<\/p>\n

The president indicated that they want Somalia to be a place where all its citizens live, even those who live in Germany.<\/p>\n

Somali refugees in Germany have expressed great concern over the president’s statement saying that the problem they fled from Somalia is still there.<\/p>\n
