Josep Borrell Fontelles, who is the vice president of the European Union for foreign affairs and politics, had a telephone meeting with the president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this meeting was to deal with the tensions in the region between Somalia and Ethiopia, while strengthening the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n

During their conversation, Josep Borrell Fontelles said how the European Union is committed to protecting the unity and independence of Somalia.<\/p>\n

He underlined the importance of stability and cooperative security efforts against the growing challenges in the Horn of Africa region.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud thanked the European Union for its continued support, pointing out the importance of joint efforts to fight terrorism and ensure the security of the country.<\/p>\n

This conversation is coming at a critical time as the tension between Somalia and Ethiopia has reached its highest level. Ethiopia is very concerned about the new partnership between Somalia and Egypt, which it describes as a threat to the security and stability of the region.<\/p>\n
