The African Union will launch the Somalia Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) in January 2025, replacing the current ATMIS mission in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The new mission comes at a critical juncture. The government of Somalia initially wanted to take full responsibility for the security of the country by the end of this year 2024.<\/p>\n

However, as the security situation remains precarious, the transition to AUSSOM is seen as a necessary step to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of peacekeeping efforts.<\/p>\n

Egypt’s commitment to deploy troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) comes after the Somali government demanded that Ethiopia withdraw from the mission if it does not terminate the controversial maritime agreement it signed with it. Somaliland.<\/p>\n

The Egyptian government, which strongly opposed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has shown its readiness to defend Somalia against any invasion that Ethiopia may bring.<\/p>\n
