Jubbaland security forces seized and burned hundreds of veils worn by women living in Kismayo.<\/p>\n

These operations are part of the efforts to fight Al-Shabaab groups, who are suspected of using the Niqaab to hide their identity during their attacks.<\/p>\n

Warsame Ahmed Geelle, who is the commander of the Kismayo Police Force, said that the Niqaab has ended, when he gave a report to Jubbaland TV. He said that this initiative aims to prevent wanted criminals from hiding their faces with the Niqab.<\/p>\n

Jubbaland has reiterated its stance against the niqab, having first banned the wearing of the veil in 2013 for security reasons.<\/p>\n

Authorities have warned that women caught wearing the niqab or covering their faces fully will face legal penalties, including prison terms or fines.<\/p>\n

This move comes at a time of constant concern over the threat of Al-Shabaab, which was recently defeated in fighting in the Bulo Haji area, where Al-Shabaab attacked and killed around 100 fighters.<\/p>\n
