Somalia hopes that it will not compete in the election of the non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council as reported by government diplomatic sources.<\/p>\n

Reports that have not yet been confirmed say that there is no other African country that competes with Somalia. If Somalia succeeds in this, it will be the second time that Somalia will be one of the non-permanent members of the Security Council, since 1971 to 1972.<\/p>\n

The non-permanent seat sought by Somalia will be chosen during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on June 6.<\/p>\n

Somalia is confident that it has strong support from the African Union, which is said to have approved Somalia as the only candidate for the African seat.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Macallin Fiqi and a delegation led by him are in New York in the United States, participating in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly to elect the members of the Security Council.<\/p>\n
