The UN Independent Expert on Human Rights Issues in Somalia, Isha Dyfan who has concluded her third visit to Somalia, expressed concern about the lack of consensus on the amendments made to the articles of the country’s constitution.<\/p>\n

Isha Dyfan, called on all parties to give priority to talks in order to maintain progress in promoting democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The Independent Expert also called on the international community to continue its assistance to Somalia in “strengthening the Federal and Regional Government institutions, and the justice and security sector,” and “dealing with the negative effects of climate change, especially ensuring basic social services such as water supply, health and education for all children\u201d.<\/p>\n

She shared some preliminary observations with the press before presenting her full report to the UN Human Rights Council and the General Assembly later this year.<\/p>\n

Her last visit lasted for five days in Mogadishu, and she held various meetings with representatives of the Federal Government of Somalia, civil society, the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and various United Nations agencies.<\/p>\n
