Five people died and five others were seriously injured in an explosion hidden in a donkey truck, which exploded in the Kenyan city of Elwak, according to the Minister of Interior Kithure Kindiki.<\/p>\n

The explosion, which took place on Monday, was not claimed by anyone, however, it took place in an area regularly targeted by the Al-Shabaab group.<\/p>\n

The explosion was hidden in a donkey cart to avoid detection, said the Minister of Interior.<\/p>\n

“The crime scene has been cordoned off to facilitate evacuation and investigations while security forces are in pursuit of the attackers.”<\/p>\n

The minister did not say who is believed to be behind the blast.<\/p>\n

This attack follows an incident earlier this month, when gunmen suspected of being linked to Al-Shabaab attacked Alwaq Hospital, targeting security guards and asking where the doctors were.<\/p>\n

No one was arrested after the attack.<\/p>\n

Al-Shabaab argues that its attacks are revenge against the Kenyan forces as part of the African Union mission supporting the central government of Somalia.<\/p>\n

The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia is expected to end in December, with Somali forces taking over security responsibilities.<\/p>\n
