A meeting held by the foreign ministers of the G7 countries expressed concern over the agreement on maritime affairs signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland last January.<\/p>\n

The G7 urged both the Ethiopian government and the Federal Government of Somalia to maintain their communication links. They emphasized the importance of dialogue to prevent further tensions, calling for cooperation with regional allies, compliance with international law, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, as stated in the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n

The G7 praised Somalia for the progress it has made in building government institutions, economic management and security reforms.<\/p>\n

They encouraged the Somali authorities to continue their efforts against Al Shabaab and to advance the development of government institutions, including the completion of constitutional reforms.<\/p>\n

The G7 have expressed the need for the transfer of security duties to the Somali military. They welcomed the ongoing plans by Somalia and the African Union to establish a successful international operation, with the aim of maintaining stability as Somalia improves its security infrastructure.<\/p>\n
