Somalia has officially joined the East African Community (EAC), becoming the 8th country of the East African Community, after submitting the approval document to the Secretary General of the EAC, Dr. Peter Mutuku.<\/p>\n

A high-level delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Industry of Somalia, Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, who was in Arusha to complete the EAC accession, signed the EAC accession agreement in Entebbe, Uganda.<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony was attended by Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mathuki welcomed the fact that Somalia is a new member of the EAC, a regional organization of 8 countries, which aims to strengthen the cooperation of friendly countries in the political, economic and social fields.<\/p>\n

He said that Somalia’s inclusion will strengthen the EAC’s vision of stability, and a unified policy that will promote the East African region.<\/p>\n

He praised Somalia for meeting the requirements of the EAC agreement, and urged Somalia to ratify and implement the EAC laws and regulations.<\/p>\n

Somalia’s trade minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi said that Somalia is committed to participating in the goals of the EAC, such as trade, economic infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, peace and security.<\/p>\n
