Puntland has issued a strong warning to anyone carrying weapons who is not part of the security agencies, saying that action will not be taken against them from now on.
The Puntland Police Commander, Gen. Mumin Abdi Shire, said that they will take action against anyone armed who crosses their boundaries. The commander indicated that they have a clear determination to protect Puntland’s security and anyone who opposes the system and government of Puntland
“If the system and government are opposed, we are obliged to defend it. We left a thousand men on the (Calmiskaad) cliff before we turned the rock over and the government was dying,” said the Puntland Police Commander.
Commander Mumin said there are political pressures and armed groups operating inside Puntland. He said that recently trained forces in Carmo are ready to take a firm hand in securing the cities.
He also said that no one will be targeted for political reasons, but those who pose a threat to security will not be tolerated.
The statement by the Puntland Police Commander comes at a time when Puntland is home to soldiers registered with the Federal Government of Somalia, whose salaries and services Puntland recently cut.
