The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia has issued a decree banning single-use bags.
The circular issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stated that the use of plastic bags is dangerous to the environment.
The ministry said in a press release that the importation and trading of light bags has been banned throughout the country.
A long two-page document issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change states that starting from June 30, 2024, the use of plastic bags cannot be imported from the country.
This circular issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is coming, as the bags are widely used in rural and urban areas of the country.
