The United Nations Security Council has extended the arms embargo on Somalia until the end of this year.
The Security Council approved the extension of the arms embargo on Somalia, at its 9477th meeting, on November 15, 2023.
Speaking about the situation in Somalia, the Security Council decided that the situation in Somalia is still a threat to international security.
The Security Council also renewed the work of the Committee of Experts to monitor the sanctions against Somalia, until 31 December 2023.
The government of Somalia has already asked the Security Council to lift the arms embargo, saying it needs to get weapons to fight Al-Shabaab.
It was January 1992, when the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed Resolution 733, which imposed an arms embargo on Somalia.
