The members of both Houses of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia approved by a majority vote the Constitution of the Independent Commission for Elections and Borders after a joint session held at Villa Hargeisa.
The Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, who was presiding over the session of the two houses today, said that the members of the Parliament approved this law by a majority vote, and 173 MPs agreed to approve it, and there were no MPs who refused or remained silent.
In general, the quorum of today’s session of the Parliament opened with only 173 and in the last few days, the Honorables have been concentrating on working on the issues related to the rules related to the establishment of the Independent Commission for Elections and Borders.
The parliamentarians who would be on leave this month, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh, has asked them to work on issues related to the Electoral Code so that the country can have a free and fair election.
This new commission is tasked with overseeing elections and managing the country’s borders, ensuring an efficient and independent electoral process.
The lawmakers described the approval as an important step in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to establish a stable political system.
