Egypt’s foreign minister, Badar Abdelatty, announced that Egyptian troops will soon be sent to Somalia.

In an interview with Al-Qahera News, Abdelatty said that Egypt is still committed to supporting Somalia in strengthening its security.

This comes just weeks after Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea agreed on a joint initiative to build a capable Somali army to defend the country’s borders and maritime territories.

“Egypt is ready to provide any assistance that the Somali people may need,” said the Minister, pointing to the military efforts and the growing cooperation between the three countries.

This comes at a time when there are tensions in the Horn of Africa in Somalia, the Red Sea, and internal conflicts in Ethiopia.

Bringing in Egyptian troops could be a sign of Egypt’s desire to expand its presence in the region and protect its interests along the Nile River and the Red Sea.
